Cleaning Your Carpet: How to Remove Cat Urine Effectively

If you own a cat, it is almost inevitable that you will have to deal with the unwelcome smell of animal urine from time to time. Unfortunately, due to sickness or other reasons, your cat may urinate on the carpet at the most inopportune times. In order to properly clean it up and remove the odor, there are a few tips to keep in mind.

Blot up the Puddle

Once you locate the area where the cat urinated, quickly get as much of it up as you can. However, be carefully not to rub the urine into the carpet. This will only make the problem worse, and it could leave you with an unwelcome odor for weeks to come. Instead, take a paper towel and blot the puddle until you get most of the excess moisture up. Doing so will not take care of the problem completely, but it is a great first start.

Mix Vinegar and Water

The next step in the process is to create a solution to do a bit of deep cleaning within the carpet. To do this, combine vinegar and water; it is recommended to add three parts vinegar to one part water. So, an acceptable mixture would include three cups of vinegar and one cup of water. Take the solution to the area where the cat urinated and get the carpet very wet. Make sure to treat the area surrounding the puddle as well, just to be sure that you clean adequately.  Allow the vinegar and water mixture to sit for at least five minutes.

Add Baking Soda

Once the vinegar and water mixture has a chance to sit, sprinkle baking soda on top of the afflicted area. Be generous; there is really no such thing as too much baking soda in this situation. Vacuum up the baking soda after two or three hours.

With proper care, you do not have to deal with the lingering scent of cat urine. Follow the tips above for best success.

How To Get Pet Urine Out of Your Carpet

Getting rid of pet urine is not easy. It is best to act quickly but there are cleaning methods that work even if the stain has had enough time to set in the carpet.Pet Urine Odor Removal Orange County CA
Use a paper towel or a rag to dab over the urine. Absorb as much as possible to prevent the urine from setting into the carpet. Do not rub over the stain or you will cause the urine to set deeper into the carpet. Dab until the stain feels dry.
Prepare a solution with warm water and white vinegar. White vinegar is the best way to get rid of urine smell without using chemicals. Spray the solution over the urine stain and wait a few minutes. Dab the spot with warm water and let it dry.
You can also clean a urine stain with baking soda if you managed to absorb most of the urine with a paper towel or a rag. Sprinkle baking soda over the spot and wait for fifteen minutes for the baking soda to absorb the smell. Vacuum the baking soda and the stain should be completely gone.
Tougher stains can be removed with a mix of hydrogen peroxide and dish detergent. Mix half a cup of a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution with a spoonful of dish detergent and add warm water. Spray the solution on the stain and rub with a soft brush or a sponge. Rinse with warm water and wait for the spot to dry.
These are the best methods you should use to remove a urine stain from your carpet. If nothing else works, rent a steam cleaning machine or contact a professional carpet cleaner to get rid of the stain. You should also use an indoor urine deterrent spray if you have a hard time with house breaking your pet.

Method To Remove Red Wine From Your Carpet

One of the most horrifying experiences is to have a glass of red wine slip out of your hand and onto your white carpet. Never fear, the solution is at hand. The first thing to do as quickly as possible is to take a clean cloth and dab the stain while it is still wet to get the excess wine out of the carpet.  Perform a blotting motion, don’t rub it, but let the liquid blot into the cloth.

Next, you can try using a good carpet shampoo, or a quality stain remover just as you would on a piece of clothing and see how that works.

Or you can try any of these tried and true solutions to get the wine out of the carpet. Try spraying hydrogen peroxide onto the stain. You can use any type of spray bottle, but spraying gets it on evenly without rubbing. Once you have done that, sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda onto the area. Let the concoction sit for two to three minutes, then rinse with clear water.

Believe it or not, if you spill red wine onto the carpet, try pouring some white wine onto the stained area. The white wine helps to neutralize the red wine and makes it easier to blot up. Blot the area with a thick towel, but don’t rub it because that will force the wine into the fibers. If the stain still persists, add some soda or salt which will help to lift out the stain.

Vinegar will neutralize the red stain and the pigment of the wine, and you can combine it with soap or club soda, which helps to lift out the stain with its carbonation.

Try these tips if you ever spill your red wine, and you’ll be surprised with the result.
